Cranberry Mine

Relatively little is known about the history of the Cranberry Mine. Despite this, it was evidently once an ambitious operation. Worked for magnetite iron ore, the mine was entered by two parallel adits heading southwest. The left adit is short and exploratory in nature while the right adit opens up to a large stoped cavern. The stope continues upward following the course of the bottom rock. Near the top of the hill above the mine is a shaft about 20 feet in depth. Further southwest, the vein was opened again on the surface but the working is now collapsed.

It is not known who operated the mine, how much ore was produced, nor where the ore was shipped. The ruins of associated buildings are still evident including a powder magazine.
