There's a homeowner on Dew Drop Lane in the mining area of
Sylvan Lake, NY that has a mine car wheel just like the pic you have
included in the forum. It's a new hiousing developement, and one Sunday
afternoon, I was talking about all the minig activity in his neighborhood when a
resident told me ' I have something to show you.'

He had recently excavated his back yard for an inground swimming pool
when the contractor unearthed a mine cart wheel. The Sylvan Lake railroad
used to pass right on his property. On the other side of the lake, I uncovered
19c.. railroad rails in short 2' segments. and waste rock from the mines of the
1860-80's. There are ore pits around the lake and along Dutchess County
Route 9. The local library has newspaper acticles about the discovery of iron
ore in 1832 and the mining activity well into the 1880's.

Any info Mike Hetman could post about Sylvan Lake Mine and Thomas Edison
reviving the mines at the Croton Magnetic Mine of Brewster, NY would be

Mike Maz
