Ok. so not technically a mine, but this is what you get when you have a bunch of hard rock miners, a bunch of dynamite and a need for a jail in the old west.

This is the old jail in Clifton Arizona. They put one of a few of the remaining old 20in gauge mining locos from the Arizona Copper Co. and Coronado RR on display next to it.

The Locomotive is No. 8, Copperhead, it's one of a handful of locomotives left out of 10 that were once operated by the A.C.Co and Coronado RR. The No. 5 has been cosmetically restored and is on display in the relocated town of Morenci, just up the hill from Clifton. No. 7 is in Safford AZ. No. 2 has also been cosmetically restored and is on display at the AZ Mining and Mineral Museum in downtown PHX.

Interior shots.

That's my daughter, 2 at the time. Get 'em underground early! My mother is in the background. Three generations all underground at the same time. LOL.

Second room of the two. This one is about a third the size of the other. Must have been for them real tough hombres. Chains attached and driven into the floor. No ventilation holes to the outside like the larger cell.
