The mines of Turkey Creek discussion here: http://www.ironminers.com/mineforum/viewtopic.php?t=20186

Image
The entrance to an adit near Turkey Creek.

Image
The adit is entered.

Image
Darn, it looked like it would go on forever from the outside...

Image
A single curved mine rail sits outside the entrance.

Image
Since the adit is so short, why don't we grab some dynamite from the shed and make it longer!

Image
Hmmm, no dynamite to be found.

Image
The remains of the Golden Belt Mine mill are in the background.

Image
A closeup view of the mill, now in ruins.

Image
Opposite the mill are a series of adits. This is one of them. Stay tuned for the upcoming slideshow...

Dont feel bad it diddnt go that far. I remember " accessing" a mine for two days. Just to find out it was collapsed a few feet in.

Sometimes the thrill of doing this is just in finding the mine itself. There have been times where we spent entire days or even a couple weekends pinpointing the location of a mine. If all we found was a short tunnel or a pit, then yea they'll be some disappointment, but it will all be worth it and we can scratch that one off the list. In the case of some mines, it may even be inaccessible but there is a story or a sense of history to the mine that makes visiting it appreciative.
