A 3' gauge locomotive in Grand Rapids, MI is believed to be Wanamie #9.

Best part, it is under restoration to operate!

Great to see that this lokie was located. However given the photo, it doesn't really look like it is currently under any plans for restoration. It has Christmas lights on it (for display) and it is sitting on a narrow gauge track that looks to be specially constructed to allow the engine to sit in front of a full gauge caboose. Unless that is an old picture...

Hey chris, how about ypu talk to the historical societies around the wyoming valley, since you have more contacts then me, about bring the wanamie no. 9 lokie back to the area and having them chip in money to restore some tracks say wilkes barre to glen lyon and having tourist trips running. Do not forget, my grandfather worked by the sweat of his brow down an wanamie and I would be glad to give say like the first $500 toward this experiment.

first thing would be to find out if they were willing to part with it, which i doubt. but its a good idea.

The second thing would be to determine if the boiler is sound enough to achieve a working restoration.

There is a good chance that a completely new boiler would be required. And that requires another level of comittment, dollars and engineering.

But, it is a good thought and there is no harm in asking.

Hi Greg,

The boiler company that owns her mentions on their website that restoration is the goal. Interesting.
