Dodge breaker & shaft DL&W-Glen Alden coal company. Current site is an under construction Wal Mart on the Scranton -Taylor boarder on North Main Avenue.
Tonnage 320,000 tons per year
Breaker closed 1921. Coal sent to new Baker breaker near by.
William Earle Dodge (September 4, 1805 – February 9, 1883)
Although he was never a president of the DL&W, he was a party to the ultimate success of it. He came to Scranton to look over the Lackawanna Iron and coal companies plant. So impressed, he assembled a group of investors. Which led to the companies success. He also saw the potential of the now city of Scranton. He was a founding stock holder of the DL&W and sat on the original board of directors. He also had holdings in the furnaces at Oxford NJ, the Houston and central railroad, the elevated railway in New York city. Also invested in timberlands in Canada and Georgia. Also owned copper mines in the mid west.
