i remember going to the area of the old ewen colliery site with some friends years back, yes i do have some friends, anyway, there was a sweet rock slope that had great stone work, it even had a nice little keystone, the slope was smooth on the inside and went down at a pretty low grade degree, there were steps on top of the slope entrance on the actual ground, sorry im trying to visualize it, it was absolutely beautiful, it was collapsed after about 10 or 15 feet and on the surface u could see a smal subsidence so thats why it was sealed, it def. led to the knox workings, but anyway i took nice pics of it a few yrs back and im glad i did before i went to ft benning i went there to find it and to my horror the land was all excavated and there were construction workers there i asked them whats up and they said they were building a medical facility here, i said did u guys see the slope, after all it was quite noticeable, he said what slope?im like u guys are building right over a mine slope and he seemed dumbfounded, anyway they totally destroyed it and built over it, the rock work of the face of the entrance to the slope looked like an italian masterpiece, what a damn shame, ill try to hunt down some of the pics when i go to my parents house next week.

Yeah, that would be great to see whatever pictures you might have taken from those parts. Its amazing when people just build on top of stuff like that with no understanding on what is underground. It is kind of scary actually.

yeah, probably. People are pretty clueless.... That would be cool to see the pics though. I'm sure there was more than just the slope there too.... I wonder what else they built over.

they probably plowed it over. the knox workings were part of that colliery, but not sure how they connected. i have the maps, will have to take a look.
