At least it would stay away from the town of Olyphant... it would just keep moving down the mountain..

That dragline came from the Simpson stripping pit.

Hello All! How do they keep a huge dragline like that from accidently falling into a mine shaft or tunnel while it is above ground working? You would think the vibrations from such a huge machine would cause cave ins of old tunnel's/shaft's while it is moving around above ground. Take Care.

It might cause some disruption to the underground workings, but theres no voids big enough up there to swallow that thing! where the dragline is now the coal bed (and workings) are deep enough within the rock below it that they shouldnt have any surface subsidence problems. They actually do use techniques to intentionally collapse mine workings from the surface, but that involves a crane and a huge tamping weight for pounding on the ground.

You don't happen to know a Chuck Flynn do you?

My uncle Chuck (Flynn) lives in Willoughby on Jordan Drive and my grandfather Chuck (Flynn) lives in Wickliffe on Rockafeller Road off of Euclid Ave.

took some more pics today from the plane. going to have to get up there on the ground and get some. the drag has moved to the north part of the trench. from the air it appears they have dug down to the first vein of coal, the dunmore no. 1 bed. its getting pretty big there, and the mound of rock they removed is huge! its quite an impressive sight now! we are probably going to get some of the aerial photos up on the site tomorrow.

there are "some" people that have reported that the fire is not being taken care of properly or that they are not working hard enough up there. well i took this today. its only been about 2 months since they started the trench project they are working 2 shifts 7 days a week:

the newspaper reports they are ahead of schedule and should be completed soon.
