Here is one of two GE cable reel 36" electric locomotives.

Image

There are numbers on the top edge of the side frames, near the front end of the locomotive. Both sides have the number "112062" stamped on.

Right side

Left side

Number stamped on one of the traction motors "1000626".

The numbers cast into the traction motor cases look like dates:

"5-16-23"

Image
"4-3-23"

Can we tell anything from any of these numbers?

John

Here's another of the same model.

Image

On this one there are two numbers on the right side frame, near the front of the locomotive.

Image
The first number looks like "109531"

Image
The second number "75982" is to the right of the first.

Image
Traction motor number looks like "1000534"

John we will check again but the numbers stamped have one too many numbers. We will try a few combinations using the numbers provided.

We will also check the Whitcomb # when we get back tonight.

What would a typical number be for a GE made in early 1923?

John

John the typical SN# range for General Electric in 1923 was # 8931 to 9496 but some orders at the end of that sequence did not ship until 1924.

THE WHITCOMB INFORMATION:

Sn# 61106

Built: March of 1950 (late model considering the last diesel electric built by Whitcomb was in 1954)

Built for: Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Youngstown, Ohio

Model: 25DE26

Weight 25 Ton

DE standards for Diesel Electric

Gauge: Standard

Interesting fact: Youngstown Sheet & Tube ordered (5) locomotives at this same time (3) 50 ton 36" ga & (2) 25 ton 36" ga.

Ray what does the 26 stand for in the model #? Cab Style ?

I thought the Whitcomb was standard gauge. It's on the same track as the 25ton GE in the industrial locomotives post.

So, I'm sure you tried 10953 and 11206. Based on the 1923 numbers, these numbers would not have come up until 1926 or 1927.
