For those that know I'm a truck driver and know my route, you'll be glad to know I now have the Baltimore warehouse added to my route.
When I leave Hanover, I take 94 S. which turns into MD 30 after the state line.
About two or three miles into Maryland, I pass an old barn that has the "Famous Reading Anthracite" sign on it. Most businesses are closed down in that area right now, which is sad, but I was wondering if anyone knew what this business was.
I never noticed it before, and I don't even think I'd know how to look that up.

I did find this on Wikopedia though, and thought it was quite interesting.
I wondered if the iron mine had anything to do with it:

"AT one time, an iron mine was opened near Melrose (north of Manchester) which was thought to have such potential that a spur railroad was built at the site. However, the ore proved to unprofitable and both rail line and mine have disappeared. There was even an iron foundry in Manchester in the early days."

Chances are they were a dealer for reading coal. All the big names had dealers from Virginia all the way up into Canada. By the way I was at the Breaker were the coal goes to from the mine Chris and Myself work at. They were loading triaxles to go to .......... you guessed it: Maryland!

I don't know what company it was. I'm sure if you call Sherman, Superior, Hegins Mining, Pine Creek, Kimmels, or just about any other breaker in Schuylkill County or lower Luzerne County you'll be able to get a job driving truck
