Ya, looking forward to it. Amy is making that cake she sent down with me last time I was there, but its for the bake sale. Thought the picnics ran 10-5, so that really shortens the day. I don't see us making it before noon what with PA's famous construction.

My grandparents are coming this time if the weather is good. He won't go in a mine ever again, but he'd like to see the motors and stuff. We'll walk him down by the station at some point.

If anyone is in or near Bethlehem, PA, you might want to stop by the main entrance to the Sands Casino around 12:30 tomorrow (Tuesday 6-9-09). They are having their grand opening ceremony, which will include a blast from the former plant whistle! It is a media only event, but if you are close enough to see the big black ore bridge in front of the casino, you will hear the whistle. This particular whistle was originally used on the ocean liner Normandie. The liner was scrapped by Bethlehem Steel, but the whistle was salvaged from the scrap train and used in the steel mill until 1984. The whistle normally resides in Brooklyn, NY, but has been loaned to the National Museum of Industrial History for the event. The casino rented a 250 HP boiler and installed a 2 inch insulated steam line to blow the 650 pound whistle. If you can’t be there in person, look for it on TV as it is planned as a giant media event. For scale, here is a shot of the whistle with one of our volunteers.

Coolspring Power Museum will be having a big show Thursday through Saturday:

It is about 1.5 hours from Pittsburgh so it would be convenient to hit this and the Longwall show at the same time.

The No.9's Heritage Festival is this Sunday July 12. Last year we set the record for tours in one day during the heritage festival and the way things look we very well might beat it this year. There is going to be over 50 food, exhibitors, crafters, and vendors this year. It's sort of like the Ozzfest of the Anthracite Heritage community

What, don't you like Miner's Heritage, or Ozzfest? Unless something unforseen comes up, we'll be down there. I'll burn the snap out of myself with my newly restored carbide lamp just for everyone's entertainment. (Uh huh, I said lamp)

How's the sunburn?

Should have told them they were powder burns and that mining is dangerous. :D Glad you guys had a great time and got to chill with Rob pretty much all day. I was happy you guys made it up. We'll just see what kind of show we can do next year, yous are welcome to come up for that too.

Kinda hard to top the Blues. Actually, you can't. They won't be back next year probably, but they do want to come back pretty bad. We got a 9.6 out of 10 on airshow reviews too. I didn't even know they were here!

See ya Sundee!

Ya, I'm a prop fan myself obviously. Holland and Chapman in the same show was just sweet. That line-up was my family for a week. But as far as crowd-pleasing, PR, and overall show success, in this business no one tops the Blues.
