where would the world be if it wasnt for all the wierdo's. what fun would it be if everyone was exactly the same and had the same thoughts. tell those tree hugging hippies that without coal, their precious starbucks would go out would go out of business because they would have no power to brew their moca fropa loopa doopa el grande mo latae fro crata.

Just tell them that if they did away with mining that there would be thousands of jobs lost and no matter what Obama says you can't replace them with "Green Jobs" .

Personally I think the weird ones are the ones that support a theory about why the earth is warming (when it is actually in a cooling phase), without any form of scientific evidence to back it up. When their theories about supposed warming of the earth is based on the fact that the north pole ice cap, which contains less than 10% of the earth's glaciers, has lost a significant amount of ice, however when the glaciers in the south pole, which make up about 90% of the earths ice caps, are at record levels in ice growth. Who think think the reason there is such immense ice growth in Antarctic, during an earth cooling phase, is because of "Global Warming". Who state this years coldest winter in 27 to 100 years (depending on where you live) is because of warming of the earth.

I can keep going with more scientific facts, but I don't think you are the weird one for not supporting their myth science.

Welcome to the world of complex issues. You are going to have to learn that some people have made up their minds and nothing is going to change them.

You have looked at the facts that you have and come to a conclusion and they have done the same, but come to a different conclusion.

My suggestion would be to study the issues and make up your mind and stand by your decision. Being the only one in your school that believes it doesn't make it a wrong decision.

You may want to post specific issues and comments other students have made and get specific answers.

I have tried telling them that, but they don't care :x

I also have told them how many rail road tracks would be pulled up :( , but they don't care, they think I should (In the words of one of them) "care about the greater good" or what ever.

You seem like you're capable of research. Tell 'em they've all been indoctrinated by a socialist movement aimed at taking over our youth, and back it up with facts.
Then be ready for a lot of suspension.

Nevermind. That's what happened to me...
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. They'll see when they get older. How 'bout it Banks?

What Shana said. Let them know they have been brain washed. No one wants to be considered a conformist, especially kids (I assume you're High School age?), so just let them know that they have been told lies about how the world works and that they are conformists, getting in line with everyone else instead of being different and learning for themselves.

If coal was shut down today, they wouldn't even be able to text anyone to find out why the power is out. Cell towers would shut down, too. This country was built on the backs of coal miners, and to this day runs because of them. Tell them that, or to get back in line and be just like everyone else.

Coal and trains ARE for the greater good. The most efficient and' ugh, GREEN, way of moving goods is by rail, hands down. Each train car gets 4-5 trucks off the road that burn more gas. Coal trains are for tourism, maybe you should suggest they go ride one before they knock it. Trains are saving our planet from Al Gore's deadly global warming, if they really cared about the planet they should be rallying for more rail service because even Obama knows that.

And without coal, we simply do not have another source of energy that can keep up with our current lifestyle. Ask them if Nuclear is better? Solar and wind, no matter how much we expand it, can never keep up. And windmills kill the birdies.

Tell them to think about that when they're sipping on their chi chee double dip crappachino latte.

So what are the new categories for "different" kids in school these days where you are? Emo, Goth, Vamp, and Coal?

Being from California I have to deal with these type of people on a regular basis. Last year they got a judge to halt all dredging in the state because it supposedly stirs up mercury in the streams and rivers. Well, most sluice boxes recover quite a bit of that mercury and by adding a mercury trap you can collect close to 100% of the mercury dredged.

Here it's become a lost cause to argue with them, even when you provide them with scientific information pointing out that their theories are flawed. I will have to say there have been a couple of times that I've explained theories to some that could actually think for themselves and they left with some doubt in their minds as to their thinking.

It also seems that most of the younger Forest Service employees have a background in Environmental Studies, almost like it's become a prerequisite to being hired. Those are some tough nuts to crack.

I my biology class, (and meatorolgy) they did a whole unit on global warminig and the enviorment and at the end they showed us a video about camron dieaz talking about how we should save the enviorment with green power and I was thinking that the only reason the kids, paticularly the boys paid attention was because they thought she was hot, the pro coal group needs to try this

invasive plant species erradication
stream improvement projects
picking up & recycling trash

Who gives a rat's ass? Everyone thinks someone else is weird, it's just part of life really. Don't worry about it, who really cares what everyone else thinks. to each his or her own imo.

Ahh a favorite subject...enviromentalists. Well start off by telling them that 66 percent of the electricity generated in this country comes from coal . The lights in that school where they tell you your a earth hater. Are probobly suppiled by eletricity generated from coal. Second coal is domestic...ie. no arab involvement. But I can go on on an on. So Ill stop myself. Banks had a bumper sticker that summed it up perfectly ( which he still owes me one wink wink) It went something like this: " DONT LIKE COAL, FREEZE IN THE DARK YOU YUPPIE !!! "
