I must ask, how did you get the plane to stand on it's tail like that? it looked like it stalled out.

Looks like a pretty decent strip, but why such an incredibly long displaced threshold? BTW that was some nappy-headed flying.

trees on approach. thats getting shortened as the neighbors have agreed to cut the trees and we just relicenced the field, so we can remark the runway with a much shorter displaced threshold.

Maybe we should introduce him to Google and Wiki?

You see the runway marked with arrows, those will lead you to a soild bar across the runway. You cannot touch down until beyond the bar for various reasons. Obstructions such as is the case here, sometimes pavement strength (can't handle a landing impact but is OK for takeoff roll), sometimes an instrument approach leads to touchdown zone further down the runway than an older one that used to be installed did. The one I noticed here was extraordinarily long, which is crippling to a field that is already short. On a runway like ours, a whole differnt set of lighting needs to be installed as well.

Lemme guess, you have your mining papers too...?

nope. the only mining i have done is in the sandbox, gravel pile, or snow. I use Tonka (The old ones from when my dad was little) or G-scale construction equipment with Lego guys in the cabs because they fit. I snow-haul with tonka trucks that I have at home. (the first time, it stuck my lip to the bucket of the loader!) I have, however, ridden in Fifi, the only flyable Boeing B-29 Superfortress.
