Hi all, I had been working as a sinker at a big shaft in Mongolia for 8 months. I liked my job and I've learnt all jobs carried on underground shaft, for instance, blowing over, drilling support, drilling shaft around, charging up shaft bottom, mucking, lining up shaft forms etc, even I had worked at shaft for few months. But some incidents were happened consistently within 5 days. So I started feeling fear or uncomfortable for working underground and then, I applied for safety officer and I got this position now. Finally, I would like to ask you guys what is the most important advantage of working as a safety officer at shaft instead of a sinker. Obviously, I'm sitting in office now.

Suuri,

John and Dave's post should be deleted. We have a lot of spammers posting all sorts of things for sale from the far East.

Since you don't have anything for sale, welcome to the discussion.

Safety in US mines as compared to Chinese mines is completely different. The mines are privately owned and a Government Agency enforces the safety. The owners push for production and the government pushes for safety, in theory. So the two tend to oppose each other.

There is a lot of effort put into keeping gas levels very low.

Possible, but I have seen those ones from "France" and the "UK," they are obviously specifically written for the forum but we never hear from them again. I think they're data miners. Don't know how it works other than they join the forum and whatever it is they do they get whatever info from members they can (e-mail etc). Don't know the goals etc, and this guy can very well be legit, and in that case then it'll be great to have someone actually working in a mine over there on board with us. But I'm still thinking these people are very good at whatever it is they are doing. Hope he writes back and proves me wrong.
