Hi, I have a Koehler mining lamp Approval No 201. from my grand father. I have been trying to get the bottom tank off but have not been able to. It unscrews about a 1/8 turn and stops solid. Can anyone please tell me how to get the bottom off. Also there are two little what I'll call plugs on the top edge of the bottom about 1/8" in diameter. Can anyone tell me what they are?
Thank you very much for the help.
Dave

Dave,
Those little knobs are magnetic locks that allow the fuel font to be unscrewed from the main part of the lamp. What you need to get is a very strong magnet. Place the magnet on the those two little knobs and twist the fuel font (bottom piece) back and forth until it unlocks. Hope that helps.

Scott,
Thank you very much for the reply. It work. I got it to unscrew. The lamp is complete and in very nice condition. I wanted to get it all cleaned up and polished. I also got a Autolite carbide lamp which is also very nice after I got it polished up. It still has the rubber piece on the bottom. The two will look good together when I get them done.
Thanks again,
Dave

Guys, Thanks for the nice welcome and the help. I will post some pictures in a couple of days. I have the lamp all cleaned up, polished up but when I went to put it back together I found out that I was missing the 5 short spacers at the top. So I'll have to make some. The lamp has been setting for years partially apart in a box and I thought it was all there.

Thanks,
Dave

Got the Koehler approval 201 done. Here is a picture of the 201 and my Autolite carbide as promised. Now I'll see if I can attach a picture.

Enjoy,
Dave

Very pretty for something that spends most of its life covered in coal dust.

Thank you guys for the very nice comments.
Now I need to see the 201 working but I need to find a big flint for it.

Thanks,
Dave

The flint for a torch striker will work. You just have to get the little metal base off of the flint.

I think I used a regular lighter flint.
