and just "before" you go ahead and ask what is up with all the baskets on the motor, we had them save them for the gravity slope wash house restoration. they are in my moms barn right now  knowing what i know now, i would have had them save a battery locomotive, the wheat lamp charger, mechanical coal loader, mine motor charger, all the hardware, extra battery mine cars, a coal car and a mantrip instead of just those blasted baskets

how about this one! this is in lake winola pa by where my mom lives. i used to drive by it every day. stopped and talked to him several times. unfortunately its just a lawn ornament and he has no plans on a full restoration  at least its not in the scrap heap. this was one of the 2 shop switchers at vulcan iron works in wilkesbarre. it was built there, but not sure when but sometimes in the 20s.

Great pictures. Question on the compressed air lokies. I don't doubt those are Porters but I seem to recall catalog shots of similar ones built by Dickson in good old Scranton, PA USofA.

It seems that Vulcan is finally getting some attention from preservationists, but Dickson lags way behind. They did build some big locomotives for the anthracite roads, but their bread and butter was the industrial line.

SteamLocomotive.info only lists two Dickson steamers left in the whole world, but I have a feeling that there are more along with some of the mining lokies built for compressed air. Anyone have a lead on any?

hey rob, thanks for chiming in here. i have actually never heard of dickson locomotives. only the dickson shops there in providence which was the shops for the hudson coal company. also, those compressed air lokies are acutally porters, i remember it on the data plates.

We might have one or two pictures of the locomotive you are talking about. We would love to save one to add it to our Industrial Locomotive collection. We are trying to save at least one form every builder in the U.S. .

The locomotives at the Homestake Gold Mine site were definately Porters. Porter was well known for underground compressed air locomotives. We are also looking for any compressed air locomotives from any mine or industrial plant. We can have a truck there the same day in most cases. If anyone knows email us through our website: http://www.ohiovintagecoal.com

Yes, the locomotive is only on static display. Here is a link to its history:
http://www.cityofla.org/RAP/grifmet/tt/htmgallery/gallery_loco/sharpfellows.htm
All of the steam locomotives there are on static display. However, one is being restored to operation:
