Where can I go for a job in a coal mine my grandpa and great grandpa were both coal miners. I was laid off from my factory job and can not find work anywhere. I have a family to support so if you have any advice please let me know.
Thanks

Like Jude said, the Bituminous fields are the place to go. Theres not much around here any more. Theres some anthracite operations in the middle and southern fields but they're mostly famly run operations. Deep miners have to go through miner training courses and safety courses throught MSHA (Mine safety and Health Administration).... I don't know about strip miners however. Now, around this area, they're reclaiming culm banks / refuse piles and taking the coal from them. That seems to be a strong industry right now. Pagnotti enterprizes and Denaples are doing a lot of that.

It shouldn't be to bad, you could probably bundle up. Then again you'd have to check with msha first and see if that's permitted.

And your gloves would hae to say "glove right hand" and "glove left hand" respectivley. Also your long johns would have to be msha blue with the required reflective stripes or you could be cited for improper undergarmets.

I would go apply for a job there if I wasn't in school. It couldn't be any worse than working a 12 hour shift in the -20° freezer at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

God, I hated that place
