All of us from Ohio Vintage Coal give our thoughts & prayers to the family & friends of the miner that was killed. Mining is very dangerous & going frequently underground at active mines safety & alertness is always our top priority. Accidents always happen when you least expect them.

Banks we are VERY glad you made it out safe. When we heard the news we were definately sitting at the edge of our seats.

Yeah guys I'm alright... Really bad day today. Doesn't get much worse than that.

Before the questions start flying-

1) Yes, I was there.

2) No.

I'm not giving out any details. The best I can tell you is read the MSHA reports. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I can't give out details before the official reports are released. Sorry Guys.

Thanks Pete -

Yeah, people have to realize that there will ALWAYS be injury and death in mining. It's a fact. It's simply impossible to make mining 100% safe. Though theres a lot of new technology and knowledge today, we're still just men facing the best and worst the earth has to throw at us.

well put banksey. and guys understand his position. please dont ask for details. its just like the several plane crashes i witnessed at work, one fatal. even though you saw it and people want to know, you just cant talk about it. one because of the investigation, two out of respect to the family, and three just because you had a real bad day and really dont want to keep reliving it every 10 minutes.

one thing we learned working in an active mine, is be prepared for anything at any time and always be aware of your surroundings! like pete said, you can try to be as safe as you can but accidents happen. you really gotta have your head on straight working underground!

Regardless of the exact cause, accidents happen and they become even less desensitized so close to home. My thoughts are with the miner's family and fellow workers whom are also in a lot of ways, a miner's family.

Our local news station was even there, although they didn't say much either.
The first thing I thought, "BANKS..."

I'm glad to hear from you here.

This news just disheartens me. We don't need another one at this point, and I'm praying for the family at this time.

Banks,

I'm glad you are alright. Regardless where you were working, these kinds of things are tough. Its a sad day in regards to the miner who passed and his family. While not as hard, it is still very difficult for the other miners in the mine as its like a family down there. Too bad these things have to happen.
