I knew you guys would do that. All I was trying to do is give a little professional advice since we work with rail all the time as a contractor. We know what happens when you cut rail with a torch from repairing other peoples' mistakes in the past so I just passed it on.

So what you have there is what you have there I will let it go at that. You guys are the experts.

Reread the sarcastic post again. If you'll note there was not one mention of a cracked joint. Only a missing guide rail and a motor with a narrow gauge. No need to get your knickers in a knot over that :!: I never heard of not burning holes in rail for fear of it cracking. But we will keep a eye on the joints that were made in the last 5 years for signs of cracking and when we could maybe we will start drilling holes.

This is why it was a concern for me:

NS Corp (section 9.02)

This is what we have to deal with on our job sites.

A torch cut changes the metallurgy of the rail. The slow speeds might not have problems at all.

slow.... pete we are talking about a raging 6 mph here! im sure it is a problem and i wouldnt go burning holes in rail for say, amtrack. however like you said it should prove no problem for our slow speed.

I know. . . . just pointing out how it does change the metallurgy , not saying you are Amtrak.

That BSHA gram coming down the pipe woudln't suprise me one bit either, bureaucrats are the scum of the earth, and love to see others fail no matter how hard they try to do things right....just my 2 cents. Hey fellas try to keep it on the rail next time eh, and don't go so fast through switches. Even we don't do 6 mph through our switches and we're a full size railroad. 6 mph on a little motor in a tunnel is booking it. Lol!

actually that was a guess, i dont know if they do 6 mph or not, i think the regs changed sometime in the mid 1900s that limited motors to 3.5 or 4 mph maybe, pete would know. its about jogging speed, but we do slow it down through the switch, it always stays on the road we just didnt get the guide rail on yet

BSHA,

Is that Mike being witty and playing on the fact they are stacked for Bitty mines or is that an actual acronym?
