just the touch up nail polish thing. however when i got the side door repainted after the 3rd deer strike the body shop did tell me that yellow was the most expensive chevy had..... ish. however it does match double yellow line from the road pretty well  and that would be reflective so you could run it in a bitty mine

yea drifton in hazleton was standard gauge, actually most of the mines around jeddo were. when you come out of the pumproom at the pump slope for jeddo there is a rock gangway with standard gauge track. its pretty insane. too bad drifton is buried at the bottom of a stripping pit.

Well, today was perfect painting weather. I got the right shade of yellow and slathered it with a nice thick coat. It looks so much better now! Never use 'Safety Yellow' to paint a motor car!

Great job John! It looks good! That would be neat fun thing to get into, I guess I'd need to learn some of the rules and find what is required to run on some of the not so used rail that is here in NJ..

Hey Greg, or anyone else over that way who's interested, there's a trip in North Jersey that I'd be interested in bringing my car out for:

June 27 - 28 2009
New York Susquehanna & Western Railway, Southern Division

The Volunteer Railroaders Association is pleased to sponsor a 2-day run over the NYS&W Southern Division June 27th and 28th, 2009. On Saturday the participants will travel approximately 100 round-trip miles between Riverdale , NJ and Warwick , NY . On Sunday we will run approximately 60 round-trip miles between Riverdale , NJ and North Bergen , NJ .

Lemme know if anyone wants to go!

John

A couple of weeks back, I had the chance to run the Sheffield from Marienville, PA to the Kinzua Bridge, the famous viaduct that was knocked over by a tornado in 2003. In all, about 40 cars went about 100 miles, round trip, over two perfect days.

Kane, PA at the former Knox and Kane tourist railroad station.

One of a few wooden trestles on the line....

A couple aerial shots of the cars at the Kinzua Bridge.
Image

That's the fallen bridge-and check out the blown-down trees all over the area.
Image

And in case anyone was wondering what happens once we reach the end of the line, we turn the cars around. Some of the fancier cars have turntables that extend down from underneath the cars. The Sheffield has no such thing and simply requires about 5 people and a paved crossing....
Image

Oh and yous aren't the only ones who derail things.... they had it back on the tracks pretty quickly. That was the only incident on either day.
Image

Thanks to everyone who sent the pictures I posted here. And thanks to Gary Shrey for organizing the run. And thanks to my pit crew, that's Tom, Roscoe, me and Clark (some of you may know him as "Digger")

Hey John, thats awesome! How do the build in turntables work? Does the cab/top of the car pick up and turn around on the frame? I like rosco's railbed! man that dog has the life!

Hey Banks, the turntable has a large flat plate mounted at the end of a vertical shaft that extends down from the bottom of the car. The shaft is centrally located within the car and driven by an electric or hydraulic motor, which lifts the car up. The shaft can rotate about is axis which allows someone to spin the car around while its up in the air.

Make sense?

Yeah, my dog was a rockstar on the last trip. Everyone wanted a picture. He stayed on the car for the most part, except for one chinese firedrill where we all had to hop off quickly and push because we stalled in the middle of a major highway intersection. Not bad for his first time out!

John

RIDING THE BULL..... here's another way of turning a car. this "turntable" is basically a tip-track that rotates and tips. tip it one way and drive up on it, then tip it the other way, rotate the whole thing around 180 degrees, tip back and back off. works great!
