Should I cancel my order for the black helmet then, and get the pink one? They actually have them at getlowpro.com. THAT color has to mean something down every mine.

do the blue ones have anything to do with mine rescue??

how about msha inspectors? do they have a standard color?

I don't drink lattes or a drive Prius but my Macbook kicks ass! Got it as a Christmas 08 present from the girlfriend and love it. BTW, Ashley does drink "non-fat, no-foam, carmel lattes from Starbucks." John, you forgot to add that breed shops at Wegman's. I have concluded that from my extensive research.

Hey John, I sometimes drive a Yaris, not a Prius, and yes it comes with cup holders that fit a foamy Starbucks latte grande nice and snug! It also has plenty of trunk room for mine research equipment too! :D And yes, I do think Mac's are awesome. It seems as though you are dead on in dissecting the psychology of a green hard hat miner quite accurately!

In WV, Red hat is an inexperienced miner, orange is for visitors, black for Experienced miners, white foreman. Now no one really enforces this except for the Red hat. Need to know those guys. Blue used to at one time me Emt or Electrician and that depended on the company. Green is Ky inexperienced miners. Buy black you can always paint it. Nothing like seeing a white hardhat with black showing through with all kinds of stickers on it.

I don't know how true this actually is but if I remember correctly, MSA warned not to paint your hat as the paint could actually weaken its structural integrity over time. However, if this is true, I'm sure it is just a matter of choosing the right kind of paint.

I'd say it is accurate.

Most manufactures of safety eq. will make such statments to CYA.

I don't think the plastics used are on the high end of the scale. Heat, Time, Sunshlght and Solvents at not your friends.

yea solvents will definitely break down the plastic but if you use a quick drying paint i dont see the problem, however with that said, i still wouldnt want to paint my helmet.

With all due respect. I've always hear them called helmets. The term hard-hat seems to refer to the conventional construction hard-hat.

And MSA uses the term cap or helmet.

Thats ok. Work in the industry sometime. I used to do the same thing. I was corrected many times. That is why when you here someone telling someone they are a redhat coalminer. Not a redhelmet coal miner.Trust me.

Point noted.

Of course you could switch to orange and refer to new miners as "Punkin' Heads" and solve the problem another way. :)
