I have the 1944 version of the booklet. Got it on e-bay for $3.00. Has great pictures of the different breakers that Hudson had throughout the northern fields.

Small pieces of cardboard or foil that were sometimes mixed though out a load of coal to identify which mine and grade the coal was.

This would have been important in the days when a customer might buy a single rail car of coal and it run in a mixed train with other single loads of coal.

Also remember that especially Bitty coal can vary widely in quality and end use.

I saw a hudson coal sign at auction 'about 1 foot in dia.' sell for 185$ a nice raven run coal sign brought 285$
