I have an unfired lamp that was the second piece I added to my collection when I was 10. There is not a model number anywhere on the lamp. It only says "Koehler mfg. co. Marlboro mass. USA" on the top. It is a brass lamp about 10.5" tall and 3.75" across the bottom. My questions are:
1. What model lamp is this?
2. Are parts available?
3. The lamp is unfired but has several cracks in the guard around the wire gauze so I assume lighting the lamp won't hurt the value anymore than the cracks already have. I'm not sure where the cracks came from there isn't any other damage like it had been dropped or something and I cant remember if they were there when i got the lamp or not.

Are you sure that is brass, Or a gold paint? Doesn't look right for brass.

I agree, it does look odd but it is definitely brass.

Koehler made some brass ones like that for inspecting the hulls of ships. Believe it or not there was a need for it as oxygen deficiency existed from the oxidizing metals as well as flammable gas building up. Possibly one of those......

The key unlocks it.

Huh, never saw one like that. Every one I saw used magnets. Interesting.

the key is used because its meant for use on ships and doesn't need to be permissible. if it was, it would have the USBM approval number on the top along with the magnet locking device.

Thats very interesting. I never thought about a safety lamp being used on a ship but I guess in the hold, there probably isn't enough ventilation to get rid of stagnant air or gas build up.
