Lake Mine

The Ramapo Ore Company leased the mine in 1918 and worked the mine until it was finally abandoned in 1921. In all, the total production was 1,254,283 tons, one of the largest producers in the Highlands.

The ore body was an sizable 500 feet in width by 10 feet in height dipping 16 degrees slightly east of north near the main entrance. This entrance consists of an inclined shaft approximately 3,800 feet in length, varying from 12 to 25 degrees along the strike with drifting accomplished from both sides of the tunnel. Some of these drifts were driven for a length of 1,000 feet across. The bottom of the inclined shaft is between 1,000 and 1,100 vertical feet beneath the lake.
