Mount Hope Mine

(...continued) It was a three compartment shaft reaching a total depth of 2694 feet underground. The extensive workings along the 1,000 foot level connected with the shaft and four new primary working levels were established, the 1,700, 2,100, 2,300 and 2,500. Crusher stations were located at the 1,700, 2,100 and 2,500 foot levels. The mine continued in operation until 1959.

In 1977 the mine was reopened for its last time by the Halecrest Company. At this time the New Leonard Shaft was again the principle operating shaft and production continued for slightly less than one year when in 1978, the mine was shut down permanently. The mine was partially dewatered for use during a drought in the 1980s and the above surface stockpiles of ore shipped but no further development took place.
