Peters Mine

(...continued) In 1942, the mine was rehabilitated by the government for use during World War II. The government then proceeded to tear down the original buildings and erect larger, more modern structures to increase efficiency. The mine was dewatered and the main slope widened to accommodate two sets of tracks.

Very little mining took place during this time and the mine was eventually allowed to fill back up with water. The World War II era mining complex was then abandoned and destroyed by fire in the 1960's.

The mine was then sold multiple times to various companies, none of which resumed mining.
