today we completed the deal we made with the no.9 mine tour. we donated our mantrip to use taking tourists into the mine. this is our first piece of equipment that we actually gave away

however its going to a good home and a good cause. we really like to acquire as much mining equipment as we can but when we have something that we feel will better help another organization, we have no problem helping them out. we have some or our equipment on loan to other organizations but this we donated outright. we came to the realization that it is a bit too heavy for our rail and all we really use it for is a rolling tool shed. we are much more happier restoring old wooden mine cars and the mantrip needed alot of steel work. while working at the 9 this winter we were talking with the president, dave, about their crowded conditions in their 2 mantrip cars they have now. one is the sister car to ours, the other they built out of a flat car. he told us how the no.9 mine could really use another one, and i said we were not against ours showing up down there. it will get alot of real good use, not just sitting on the rail being full of tools. plus we can paint it how we want

that was part of the condition. there is a bunch of work that needs to be completed. needs to be regauged from 36" out to 42" by lifting it off and removing the axles, cutting them in half and welding in a 6" spacer. steel bent at either end windows, side windows cut out, doors fabricated, at least one axle spring is broken, frame has a small crack in it, couplers need to be removed and changed, benches reworked and the entire thing needs to be painted. along with a welder from tamaqua we will be completing all the work on it this spring so they can use it as soon as possible. we are very proud to have been able to help out the no.9 mine with this piece of equipment. plus im sure mike a. will be happy with another car on his train!
