Hello.
I'm doing some casual research for a novel I'm attempting to write, and wonder if I could get a little help here.
I went to college in Buckhannon (Upshur County), WV, very near the mine there. That was a long time ago but I'm familiar with the area. I'm several hours away now, near Charles Town, WV, and want to take an exploratory road trip this weekend.
In the central part of WV, are there any little coal mining museums or things like that? Or other coal towns I might pass through to take a few pictures and get a feel for the places?
I can venture deeper into the state if necessary, but want to explore some back roads and stuff, and it needs to be a one day trip, so too far southwest is out of the question.
I've also had difficulty finding clear maps showing active coal mines and railroads in WV, so any help there is greatly appreciated too.
Thanks very much.
