I went to the coal miners festival up lookout mountain today. Its more of a potluck get together than an actual festival. There was a big strip mine here in the twenties and know telling how many bootleg holes that ran into the fifties. I met an old guy who I found out is actually branch kin. His dad and uncle ran one of the bigger mines until 1956. He said he still owns the land where the mine was and the drift is still accessible. Later this fall we are going exploring. Its kinda exciting to think I have an abandoned mine on family land, even if it is distant family. Ill get pics from the mine when I go.
