Thanks to all of yous that looked into the Baltimore disaster for me, and found the name list. I was right on for timing. My great grandfather was not killed IN the mines. After extensive research I was able to determine he died in 1934 of black lung. He worked at the Pine Ridge facility in Wilkes Barre. I noticed from pics that are from several years back that there isn't much left to the site. Today, does anyone know if anything remains there at all, and if so, where is it located? Might just stop by for a visit next time I'm down.

Cool, thanks! I think I found the house on that map. Looks like a place to go looking around soon. I found out that even though he was not killed in the explosion of 1924, he was working in the mine at the time with his 17 year old son Eugene when it happened. Eugene, who was one of my grandfather's 7 brothers, was killed.

Sorry for your family suffering with Pine Ridge. I have a ton of information pertaining to Pine Ridge. You can private message me and I can get in contact with you if you'd like. My grand father had black lung from the Dorrance and my great grandfather too had it from the same mine. That was a faceless victim deathcount from the mining era. Everyone remembers the accidents, but the thousands who died decades after the mines closed often go forgotten. It really was awful to see my grandfather's breathing problems due to black lung.
