Mine foreman to face trial on all but 1 charge

The foreman of the Tremont Township coal mine in which Dale Reightler died in 2006 must defend against all but one of the charges against him, a Schuylkill County judge has decided.
In a 13-page opinion and order made available Friday, Schuylkill County Judge Charles M. Miller ruled prosecutors presented sufficient evidence to support every charge against Steven D. Zimmerman, 33, of Pine Grove, except causing a catastrophe.
Evidence supports the allegations that Zimmerman allowed the R&D Coal Co. Buck Mountain Mine to be unsafe on Oct. 23, 2006, and hindered the investigation of a Dec. 1, 2004, explosion at the same mine, Miller wrote.
