Thursday a new subsidence opened up off Ash Street. It isnt another cave into a chamber but rather a slope opening. Very Old.... on the maps it actually lists the miners in charge of each of the chambers. This subsidence took place right ourside the ASP 5 flushing peoject of the early 60's.. This is the second subsidence that took plae on the east side of the valley in Scranton in recent months. Unusual in the respect that most projects caried out there were controlled. A much better ( but today unrealistic) flushing program. The opening is temporarly sealed with 1 1/2 inch thick steel plates.

This slope was opened up a few months ago when a contractor replacing water mains in the area dug into it.. They sealed it, but I guess the fill diddnt hold.
