I wanted to share a link that actually shows a specimen of gold in quarts found in the NY Hudson Highlands. This site lies within an active military installation (Camp Smith). If massive gold has been found in Peekskill I would guess it would be concievable that gold could occur elsewhere in the Hudson Highlands

Wow, this is really surprising to see come from Peekskill. There is a supposed silver mine a little ways north in Manitou, there is a short flooded adit and the remains of a collapsed adit. Might be interesting to reinvestigate it knowing that gold was found not too far away.

I found this history of the Camp Smith. In the third paragraph of section 1 Terrain, the copper mine is said to be across the street on Roa Hook Road. Is this McCoy's Gold Mine? Why is it mentioned as a "Main historical and geographic points of interest", when it lies outside the bounds? Is this McCoy's Gold Mine? I doubt it because Roa Hook was never part of the camp and the McCoy property was on the other side where Camp Smith is now. The military also fails to mention the silver mines on Manitou Mtn- Could they be the "real McCoy"?
