During the mine/birthday party, I happened to take a few casual shots of the mine. I thought I would share some of them...
The entrance to the Number 9 Tunnel.
Just inside, the tunnel is fully tracked and steel timbered. A drainage ditch is to the left. This is going to be a long 1600' walk...
Of course, most visitors don't walk the full 1600' into the mine, they ride in steel "passenger cars" pulled by a battery locomotive.
The sound of a locomotive reverberates throughout the mine and can even be heard on the second level.
The train hooks a right at the wye seen here just before the walking portion of the tour begins.
Mine researchers from Rail Haulage Miners, Underground Miners, and IronMiners all detrain at the station stop.
Should a mine researcher fall and can't get up, the mine doctor is waiting...
