I dug this up a few days ago out of a disused hard disc...

I took these shots about ten years ago in eastern Ohio. I forget the name of the town. Anyway, this big motor was probably used as the shaft hoist for the mine seen in the background. At the time, workers were actually tearing down the buildings, so I could not explore further,

Anyway, for all you electric motor geeks, here is a goodie - a shame it was pretty much trashed. I never could find a builders plate on it either.

We are from Ohio. Depending on what part of Ohio this was more likely a fan motor. We had very few shaft mines mostly drifts. The shafts date way back is the problem. Do you have any other pics from Ohio or Western Pa on your trip.

OK, it could be a fan motor. Certainly it was made for some sort of low RPM service, with the many poles and the relatively small diameter belt pulleys. If I find more photos I will post them - or if I can remember the location.
