I was doing some research on Brookville locomotives and google led me to this site and this thread. I joined so I could get some Brookville information, which John helped me with.

I don't know much, if anything about mining. But in the spirit of giving something back, here are a few pictures I took at Bankhead, Alberta, Canada. Bankhead was a coal mining operation near Banff, inside the National Park. I believe it mainly existed to supply coal to main line locomotives. All I know about this locomotive is what the plaque says.

I have a couple other pictures that I will put in the coal car thread.

I love that Fireless Steam Engine. Any other pictures?

Also thanks for posting up the Porter compressed air loco. Those are very neat too!

This is another fireless locomotive, #7240 which is a 0-4-0 Porter Locomotive which was built in 1938.

Hi,

I am sure some of you know this but the site http://www.steamlocomotive.info/ is tracking all the steam locomotives left around the world.

If you do a search for H.K. Porter or Vulcan you will find many of the engines discussed in this thread.

If you have more info, the webmaster at the site would LOVE to hear from you.

The Bankhead engine is on the site pre-restoration. I bet Doug would love to post a post-restoration pic.

A search for "0-4-0CA" (compressed air 0-4-0's from all builders) shows at least 47 preserved, with one in Sweden operational and one in the US under restoration. Fireless searches "0-4-0F and "0-6-0F" are equally productive. Even "0-8-0F" will land a few, but only one in the US.

Rob
