Just testing. Finally found an easier way to upload photos. Anyhow, this is a Greensburg/National Mine Service 15-Ton Trolley locomotive. It operated at the last 600VDC trolley mine in the state of West Virginia, which closed down in 2002.

We just performed a thorough inspection on the Pioneer orange Plymouth from Porter Tunnel. That unit went through a MAJOR frame modification. NOTE! how wide the frame is by the axles. The frame had been cut to widen the gauge big time. THAT is rare to hack one up this bad.

Nice picture from Tour Ed Ray I always forget about that unit.

That's the anthracite way. If it won't work the way it is you make it the way it will. None of this running off and buying something off the shelf that's prevalant in other types of mines :lol:

Chris & I were talking the other night. All the mine locomotives that are left in the Anthracite region with the exception of a few all came from non-Anthracite mines. Many from the Bituminous fields & Canada. Whats up with that. The Baldwin @ 9 & a few within the main museums & thats it. It amazes me that so many were used in all three fileds now nothing ? ? ?

Are the mine cars behind the Porter Pioneer Plymouth from Porter Tunnel too? The mantrips sure look like they are.

Electric locomotive/larry cars. Used by the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company for hauling waste rock in the Anthracite region.

Trolley poles would have extended from the posts visible on the top of the cab.

The electric motors that powered each car were mounted between the trucks. Motors on both sides transmitted power to the 4 wheels on each side through slip yokes/universal joints. This is very similar to the way Shay locomotives transmit power, however, the wheels were not mounted on a solid axles. Each side of each car in the train had independent electric motor/drivetrain assemblies. I imagine this was important when negotiating tight curves.

All of the cars in the train had complete electric motor/drivetrain assemblies. Either side of the bed could be dropped and the bed tipped accordingly, to empty the load.
