 Post subject: Ohio Vintage Coal saves all historic equipment at Eagal Mine

Well this is one of our big projects that we inspected last year & finally have had a chance to save all remaining historic equipment left at the Eagal Coal Mine near Butler, Pa. Our group saves everything possible at mine sites.

This mine alone we saved:

(2) low seam Greensburg Battery Locomotives (rare)
(1) 1961 Gallis model 310B roof bolter (250volt dc)
(1) Goodman coal cutter with cable real (Shortwall machine)
(1) Kohler mine light charging rack
(1) Miners' check tag board from the last group of miners that mined in the 70's
(1) Coal mine car load check tag board
(1) Coal mine car (rivet style) we still have 6 more to pick up
(1) Lots of spare parts
(1) Complete set of mine maps
(1) All repair / operation manuals for the underground coal mine equipment

All the equipment listed above has been relocated to our restoration shop in Ohio & restoration progress has been made on the Gallis Roof Bolter already.

This is a prime example of typical mine project for our group. If anyone knows of any more mines that need to be saved please let us know.

The only piece of equipment that we are unable to save is the Dragline. Please let us know if anyone would be interested in saving this.

OVCC prides itself on saving mine equipment for future generations & we all were very glad to save and preserve this equipment from a Western, Pa mine before it was too late.

yea thats real nice. what is the height on the greensburgs, and are they runable, or restorable>?

hey werent we discussing this mine that you rescued this equipment from in another forum......... i dont know maybe something about the ghosts of one of the mine motor operators...... or that bolter? wasnt it featured on some tv show maybe......... naw must be confused..... :wink:

We didnt get that close to really inspect it. It is a Columbia & Engineering the photo is at the end of the first page with the builders plate.

IN the picture of the Non-removable battery box, there is a large cable coming off the rear of the locomotive. Is that a Multiple Unit connector (MU)?

i believe that is the charging plug.

Yep charging plug. There where only very few mine locomotives ever built as true MU style but thousands built as tandem units made to look like MU. There would be controls on only one unit & both locomotives would be permanantly hooked together. We would love to save a few.

Thanks for the compliments that is what keeps us going. We have been working on several projects this is the smallest of the 4 major ones. We have one more major project to start this year.

Yeah that is a good find and good save. Amazing the stuff you guys got from there. I love those wheels, it looks like they got a REAL GOOD AMOUNT OF USE!
