GIRARDVILLE — Efforts to promote the global demand for coal, wind energy and other renewable energy sources in the coal region will be featured on Japanese television next month.
Members of the Japan Broadcasting Corp. arrived at state Rep. Robert Belfanti’s office in Mount Carmel Monday morning to begin their several-day tour of Pennsylvania, which on the first day included a visit to Keystone Anthracite Corp. just outside this Schuylkill County borough where windmills provide a backdrop to coal strippings. At noon today, the film crew plans to interview Gov. Ed Rendell about renewable energy.
The local visit was coordinated by Belfanti; Steve Bartos, renewable/green energy coordinator for the lower anthracite region through Belfanti’s office, and Tom Burkley, international marketing executive with the Office of International Business Development (OIBD) with the state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
