CT Mike does it again. While I thought it was non-mine related trip, what is a non-mine related trip without a mine?

Very impressive Mike! Now this one is almost unbelievable.. Drills still standing ready to drill rock, Ore Car on rails, a scraper, rail bender embedded in mud on a rail, grizzly.. Wow, care to tell us some more? How many levels is this one? This one certainly looks more modern.

believe it or not this is actually a tour mine! they dewatered the mine and all these artifacts were still there as they were left! i think it was abandoned at the turn of the century and reopened in the 80s. when it was determined not to be profitable it was turned in to a tour!
we got a private tour that allowed us to spend time on photography and to inspect artifacts. they also offer gold panning which we were somewhat successful at.
also i got the phone # of a gold panning club that owns a huge tract of land that includes hard rock gold mines, for some small fees we can have access to explore and to pan for gold..... spring trip any one?

i also bought a couple of pans for gold panning and a map of all gold panning spots in georgia which also shows mine symbols for the abandoned hard rock mines. although I was told many may be on private property we might be able to check out some state forests?

I've seen some YouTube videos of the place. Seems like a decent operation.

A N. Georgia isn't that far away for me, might be workable to meet some Saturday.

Doug - If you still have the youtube videos post them up!

 we should put together a list of all tour mines in the east and make it a point to visit them all :D

Very nice Mike! I'm definitely up for a trip to do some gold panning before we do it on our own in California. A tour mine is still a mine and it is great that you were granted an opportunity to explore the areas not available to the public. Now if only someone would reopen some mines around here like Hibernia, Richard, or Mount Hope only to change their minds and start another tour mine. :D We really don't have an underground tour mine yet in New York state. Perhaps some day that will change...

Yea, if you can post up a link to those videos Doug that would be great. On a slightly separate note, I just wanted to say, considering the number of mine tours, museums, and well preserved mining sites in the west, it is a joy to learn of such a significant monument of history in the east.

Mike, I picked you up a gold pan too so we can pan for gold when we go out to CA 8) its really fun and kind of addictive! wish i had one when i went up to AK.

CT has a neat mine tour its actually self guided so you can spend as much time as you want exploring underground heres some pics from our visit there

Very neat Mike. I'm glad you were given the opportunity to document the mine. Amazing what you find when you are not looking for mines ... ;-)

I'd love to see any YouTube videos on this mine.
