To my thinking the answer is fairly obivous. In Civil Engineering, geology is often the substrate that you are working on and often with. I would expect you will have more than one geology / soils classes before you are done.
I'm going more towards soils, but location selection in nearly every engineered structure is gong to consider soil/ geology factors. soil compaction ability, depth to bedrock, soil permeability, stability, water tables, reactions when wet/dry.
It is akin to a Mechanical Engineer knowing the differences and applications of various metals and other materials.
