Hello Miners,

I have researched two more mines. The first mine I want to tell you about is featured in the 1982 movie "Rambo First Blood". The Mine is called the Britannia Mine. I have found some interesting information about the mine. I have listed the following links below for you reading enjoyment. I wanted to tell you quickly that the Britannia Mine is located approximately 48 km north of Vancouver, British Columbia. The town that the movie was filmed in is called Hope. Just outside the town lies the Britannia Mines. One of the adit entrances is filmed in the movie.

The other mine I have researched is "Mines of Moria" featured in the 2001 movie "The Lord Of The Rings" The town name is called Queenstown.
The link below shows the snowcapped Remarkables, which tower above Queenstown, New Zealand. My guess is that the filming of the mines would have been done at the bottom of the mountain. I'm not certain of this. If anyone has a close up picture of the mine area post it. Thanks and enjoy!

Hey Dan,

Yeah I saw zoolander and I didn't care for it that much. I liked having Sterling in it". The Sterling Mine is one of my favorites even if it's a tour-based mine. It's still fun to visit and I plan to go back soon. http://www.sterlinghill.org/
I'm actually tiring to get my parents and other family member to go on a tour of the mine. Did Mike contact you about getting together soon? Let me know,

Hmm, I don't remember Pahaquarry in a movie...

Here is a coal mine movie from the 50's. You can watch the miners actually work. I have no idea where it is, but it is interesting.

Hi Greg,

How’s it? Thanks for the film find. I enjoyed watching it. :D
It was the Sterling Hill Mine that was in Zoolander. It would be awesome if Pahaquarry Mine was in a movie. I think that the location of the mine with the waterfall noise in the background would be real cool for a movie scene. Would probably never happen but I can imagine it.

Hi Movie Miners,

I have another movie to add to the list. This documentary movie is from 2003 and it talks about the Salt Mines in Salzberg, Austria. The name of the movie is called

Greatest Journeys: Austria: Journeys Through the Salt Mines (2003)
I have found some interesting links about the "Hallein Salt Mine" near Salzburg.
This isn't mine related but the movie "The Sound Of Music" was filmed in Salzburg.

Enjoy

Those mine slides are pretty neat. I know of a few mines locally that you could slide down but the ride wouldn't be quite as smooth.

8) Miner Mike,

That's awesome that you know of some local mines with flumes! Do tell, do tell. I could use a snow sled maybe? Seeing the salt mine flume was one of the coolest things I have ever heard of in a mine. My brother Dan used to know a girl that lived in Austria. They dated for awhile and he has visited Austria a few times. I'm going to ask him if he has ever been near Salzberg, and if he knows of the "Hallein Salt Mine" . I will update you when he comes back from his vacation. Glad that you liked the information.

Hey Mine Movie Watchers,

I'm interested in knowing any information about the "Gold Mine" that is featured in the 1941 movie "Ghost Mine". I recently watched the black in white movie in hopes to find out any information about the state the mine is in or town.
The only thing that I found out was a potential town named called "Spring Valley" that was spoke of in the movie that was a close town near the Gold Mine. I did a search for the name and came up with 15 or so states with that town name. I searched pretty deep for the information and sadly came up nothing. Pretty nuts!

Here is another movie with a local NJ mine featured in one of the first scenes:

Kinsey (2004)
Staring: Liam Neeson & Laura Linney

Andover Cave - NO ANDOVER MINE!
from NJ Herald , August 5, 2003
By MARY PAOLUCCI

ANDOVER TWP. - Unbeknownst to many, Hollywood made its way to Sussex County Monday when filming for the upcoming movie "Kinsey" took place in a quiet alcove in the woods off of Limecrest Road. "Quiet on the set!" echoed across the valley as leading actors, Liam Neeson ("Schindler's List") and Laura Linney ("The Mothman Prophecies"), repeatedly practiced their lines. The filming, which took place at the mouth of a cave (MINE) from 8 a.m. until after 6 p.m., was long and tedious as about 85 movie staff and crew workers milled around the set checking sound and lighting to ensure that filming ran smoothly. The movie, which is scheduled to appear in theaters in 2004, is a controversial drama in which Neeson plays Alfred Kinsey, a professor who studies insects. In the scene taped Monday, Neeson, as Kinsey, takes his girlfriend, played by Linney, to a cave (MINE) to ask her to marry him. The two mega movie stars rehearsed their lines over again until the scene was perfect and the director called "cut."

Other actors to star in the movie, but who were not on location Monday include John Lithgow ("Orange County," "3rd Rock from the Sun") Chris O'Donnell ("Batman Forever") and Tim Curry ("Charlie's Angels," "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"). According to the movies local scene filmed was to take place in 1927 by the mouth of a cave (MINE). Ciric found Monday's cave (MINE) by calling the New Jersey Film Commission which put her in touch with local cave conservationist Wayne Russell. The cave (MINE) is privately owned by a local resident of the township, according to Russell, who picked out three caves in the county for director Bill Condon to look at. Condon chose the Limecrest cave (ANDOVER MINE) within a matter of hours because of its easy access to the main roadway and its mystical qualities, according to Ciric.

The cave(MINE), hollowed into a wall of jutting rocks, sits in the valley of the woods surrounded by tall, slender trees and a winding brook that eddies through a small fissure nearby. The rock formation and the cave (MINE) look like they were formed many years ago, untouched by man. "It had to look sort of magical," Ciric said. "And this cave (MINE) does that."

I can't believe that these people are calling it a cave. I had to alter the text with (MINE) because calling it a cave is just not correct. Wow that's to funny!

This is wild that I found out another Andover Mine lurks about in (Brothers United; Woolcock), Roebourne, Pilbara gold field, Pilbara region, Western Australia, Australia
Ref.: Rocks & Min.: 22:329. A lead mine located 12 km miles South to south west of Roebourne.
Reference: Lead, Zinc and Silver Deposits of Western Australia by K.M. Ferguson, published by the GSWA 1999.

Another move that's a documentary. It's called the Devils Miner. It was a very moving documentary that made me think a little differently about mining but in a good way! I wanted to do a little more research on the web after seeing the movie and this is what I found and wanted to share with everyone! If you get a chance to rent it it's worth watching! I got it through Netflix, Thanks
