(...continued) The Dolan Mine's proximity to some of New Jersey’s most successful iron mines likely generated considerable interest, particularly from figures like Joseph Wharton. However, the site never lived up to expectations, as only low-grade ore was ever found. While nearby mines thrived well into the 20th century, the Dolan Mine faded into obscurity, a short-lived venture in New Jersey’s rich iron mining history.
In the years since its abandonment, the Dolan Mine has been mostly obliterated by the development of a condominium complex. Because the mine was never properly remediated, the ground beneath the site has remained unstable. On at least two occasions, a visible collapse has occurred in the parking lot, a reminder of the mine's forgotten presence beneath the surface.
It is also worth noting that an adit tunnel located some distance west of the mine is frequently misidentified as part of the Dolan Mine. In reality, this tunnel was driven by the Hoff Mining and Realty Improvement Company in 1906 as part of the northernmost workings of the Hoff Mine.
