The Grant Mine is located near Tecopa, CA outside of Death Valley. We've been here many times, and this time we finally climbed up the 400-foot inclined shaft inside the Grant Mine. To get to the bottom of the shaft, we entered the nearby War Eagle Mine via the back entrance, climbed up a 175-foot inclined interior inclined shaft that connects the War Eagle Mine workings with the Grant Mine workings. From there, we took a couple drift tunnels to the bottom of the 400- foot inclined shaft in the Grant Mine. The inclined shaft is blocked with a large boulder that has fallen into the shaft from the surface. The boulder and debris are about 50 feet below the surface. In order to get past the boulder, one must navigate a very small gap.
