I know right? any less drivers and you would have a sled with a boiler and firebox! That arrangement was pretty standard around the late 19th century. There is only one left in America, besides these two. What is amazing is that they are sitting upright on the bottom side by side. I think that they were on a barge that was sunk in a storm, and that the barge has rotted away. I don't believe that they were cargo on a ship, and that they were pushed overboard by the crew in a storm. If that was the case, they wouldn't be right next to each other, and upright. The way that they are sitting is the way that if I were the supervisor of the docks, I would load them that way. If they were pushed off the deck of a ship, they most likely would have turned over, and would not be next to each other.
