Here's some new stuff on the not too far horizon as well. I know it's European but it's a start for us HO scalers.

Yeah, and most of it wouldn't be hard to Americanize. :idea:

I still would love to see/make a 50 ton Jeffrey like the ones Shoemaker has and their cars in HO and do a layout like that but until I can figure out how to make one on my own, I'll have to settle for these little Euro mining trains and Americanize them myself.

I agree. It is pretty cool! I notice that you see people model the mine buildings and occasionally a short stretch of narrow gauge track leading from a shaft in the hillside to the tipple, but nobody models the interior of the mine! They may have a cut-away showing a shaft and several stopes, but it is non operable. What about the track inside of the mine? What about all of the branches and interesting equipment? it certainly would be interesting to operate! Think of the traffic! The mantrips at the beginning and end of the shift, the empties and loads from the work areas to the tipple, and the equipment for the miners. Plus, it could be a very interesting thing to do in a multilevel layout! All of the workings and unique equipment! It would be a great project for someone who loves to scratch-build and wants to do something unique! I'd certainly be interested, but I'm an armature modeler.

oh thats funny doug!

kind of an inside joke on how everyone calls a mine a "shaft"

a "shaft" is a vertical opening used to remove anthracite from the mine workings using an elevator cage.

i know it can be used in other mines, but since anthracite is the only thing that matters we will be discussing that.

Just typing that line brings a smile, that doesn't start to explain. You should just meet him someday.) On the video I was refering to, Banks is explaining the difference between a Shaft, a Drift and a Slope. What you were describing sounds like a drift.
